| Bangladesh Chalachchitra Sangbadik Samity, (Bangladesh Cine
Journalists' Association), a leading journalist association which reports on showbiz, gave
out awards for quality performance and outstanding work in the field of entertainment.
On 8 June 2001, it held its award
giving ceremony at the Winter Garden of Hotel Sheraton. The glitzy show was to celebrate
the outstanding works in the silver screen, small screen, dance and theatre by
actors/actresses, directors, producers, dancers, singers, composers, and others associated
with the world of performing arts.
The venue was ablaze with the presence of stars from
all mediums of the performing arts as this was a single function to hand over awards of
three consecutive years.The awards were for the performances in the past three years were
distributed by the chief guest, Minister for Food, Amir Hossain Amu. The show was presided
over by Rafiquzzaman, chairman of the film journalists' association.
There was a lot of fanfare, laughter, music, dance
and glamour at the show attended by famous entertainment personalities of the city. The
show was divided into two parts. At first, awards were given out to ten artists in
recognition of their contributions in the field of entertainment. In the second part,
awards were given out to film personalities for their outstanding performances in the
three years.
The Food Minister in his speech said that
journalists ought to promote healthy entertainment upholding the Bengali culture. He then
handed out the Bachsas Special Awards to ten artists in recognition of their outstanding
achievements in their respective fields. The recipients of these special awards were
Ehteshamul Huq (cinema), Samar Das (music), Sumita Devi, Shabnam, Sultana Zaman, Rahman
and Rawshan Jamil (acting), Iftekharul Alam and AUM Khalilullah (production and
distribution). The food minister came down from the stage to hand over music director
Samar Das his award as he was too ill to make it onto the stage.
The first part over, Dolly Sayantoni came on stage and
entertained those present with a rendition of 'Prithibir shob shukh charte pari".
Awards were given out year wise in
the second part of the show. The awards were for the categories of cimena, television,
theatre, dance and music The recipients of the awards
in 1998 were: A.J Minto (Best Director for the movie "Baper
taka"), Badal Khandakar (Best Script Writer for the movie "Prithibi tomar
amar") Sumon Ahmed (Best Dialogues for the movie "Bhondo", Wakil Ahmed
(Best Musician for the song " Teere teere nahi bheere" from the movie
"Adhikar chai", Riyaz (Best Actor for the
movie 'Prithibi tomar amar'), Poppy (Best Actress for
the movie "Anek diner Aasha"), ATM Shamsuzzaman Best Supporting Actor for the
movie "Bhondo" Shilpi (Best Supporting Actress for the movie 'Shesh Pratikkha'),
Syed Abdul Hadi (Best Vocal Artist-Male for the song " Teere teere nahi
bheere"), Alam Khan (Best Music Director for the movie "Baper taka"), Ajmal
Haq (Best Cameraman for the movie "Baper taka"), Mirza Mahboob (Best Sound
Director for the movie "Baper taka"), Mohiuddin Faruq (Best Art Director for the
movie "Baper taka") and Aminul Islam Mintoo (Best Editor for the movie
"Prithibi tomar amar").
Golam Sarwar, Editor of Jugantor was given the Syed
Muhammad Parvez Memorial Award. Habibur Rahman Khan and Helal Khan were given special
awards.

the television category were as follows: Gazi Rakayet (Best Drama
for Gor), Mohan Khan (Best Director), Litu Anam (Best Actor), Bipasha Hayat (Best Actress), Jamalauddin Hossain
(Best Supporting Actor), Dilara Zaman (Best Supporting Actress), Keya Coconut Oil (Best
Advertisement), Ahmed Yusuf Saber (Best Ad Creator), Anowar Hossain Bulu (Best Ad
Cameraman), Pallab and Mou (Best Models), Sajjad
Hossain Dodun (Special award), Hanif Shonket (Best
Magazine Program Presenter), Shubheccha (Best Magazine program) and Ripon Khan (Best
Jingle Composition).
The awards in
the theatre: Bonpangshul (Best Production Dhaka Theatre) Selim Al
Din (Best Playwright for Bonpangshul), Nasiruddin Yusuf (Best Director), Theatre Art (Best
Group), Tarik Anam (Best Actor), Nima Rahman (Best Actress), Layla Hasan and Iman Imam
(Best Dance Artistes), Kumar
Biswajit (Best Singer-Male), Dolly Sayontoni (Best Singer-Female), Kabir Bakul (Best
Composer), Mannan Mohammad (Best Music Director), Sound Tech (Best Production), Pranab
Ghosh (Special award).

Dipjol (Best Story Line), Razzak (Best
Script Writer), Kazi Hayat (Best Dialogues), Ahmed Imtiaz Bulbul (Best Musician), Manna
(Best Actor), Shabnoor (Best Actress), Asad (Best
Supporting Actor), Dolly Jahur (Best Supporting actress), Aiyyub Bacchu (Best Vocal
Artist-Male), Kanakchampa (Best Vocal Artist-Female), Alauddin Ali (Best Music Director),
Hasan Ahmed (Best Cameraman), Nasir (Best Sound Director), Abdus Sabur (Best Art Director)
and Syed Awwal (Best Editor). The Syed Muhammad Parvez Memorial Award went to Fariduddin
Ahmed Nirod while AKM Jahangir Khan and Shimla were given Special Awards.

Natya Dal (Best Group), Sohel Rahman and Riya (Best Dance artistes).
In the music
section: Rabi Chowdhury (Best Singer-Male), Akhi Alamgir (Best Singer-Female), Best composer:
Habidullah Farayazi, Milton Khandaker (Best Music Director), Sound Tech (Best Production).
The show was well organised and enjoyable. There
were minor problems like the persons responsible for announcing the winners were at times
found to be absent. This inconvenience was soon over come by making the winner in one
category announce the winner in the following category and so forth.
It was an evening well spent seeing so many
outstanding performers being awarded for their work.
