Bangladeshi Celebrities join
rat race to enter parliament:
The Jatiya Sangsad (Parliament) has seen very few celebrity as parliamentarians, though
the scenario is
quite opposite in neighbouring country India where celebrities roam House floors as their
most known
places after the silverscreen. But now they are taking more interest in politics following
the instances in
India.
Even in the last parliamentary elections, few sought nominations from major political
parties to get
elected and feel their presence in parliament and steal the show in the stage of politics
as well. But
this year thing is quite different as more and more figures of tinsel town are becoming
common faces in
political rally and processions to show their interests and eagerness in electoral
politics.
Sources in major political parties said many of the stars belonging to both big and small
screens are
aspiring to contest the next parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on October 1.
On the other hand, the Election Commission (EC) proposes to ban for a certain
period the screening
their movies, telefilms or dramas in which any actor or actress who wants to contest the
upcoming general
election plays a role, according to EC sources.
If approved, the ban will be imposed from the date of withdrawal of the nomination papers
to the date of the
polls.
