Cine Journalists Association gives outs its Awards

Bangladesh Chalachchitra Sangbadik Samity, (Bangladesh Cine Journalists' Association), a leading journalist association which reports on showbiz, gave out awards for quality performance and outstanding work in the field of entertainment. On 8 June 2001, it held its award giving ceremony at the Winter Garden of Hotel Sheraton. The glitzy show was to celebrate the outstanding works in the silver screen, small screen, dance and theatre by actors/actresses, directors, producers, dancers, singers, composers, and others associated with the world of performing arts. The 102nd birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam was celebrated in the capital and elsewhere in the country on 25 May. Born on this day in 1899 in village Churulia of 24 Parganas district in West Bengal, Nazrul inspired the people to fight against the British regime through his powerful poems against injustice, oppression and colonial rule that earned him the title of 'rebel poet'.
