Benson & Hedges Star Search 2001

THE past three to four years were quite a boon for the music industry of Bangladesh. One of the major reasons was Benson & Hedges Star Search musical talent contest, a phenomenal approach that provides undiscovered musical talents an opportunity to be heard and appreciated.

Since its official launch, Benson & Hedges has been committed to the cause of music. Bringing international stars, arranging live and acoustic concerts, jam sessions and fusion concerts. Star Search is another commitment for finding hidden talents. The first Star Search was held in 1999. It opened a magical pathway for the musical group 'Vikings'. Star Search 2000 was even better. After the first success they realised that it was unfair to select only one star. They introduced best band, best solo performer and eight other categories in Star Search 2000. 'Steeler' was judged best band while Atahar Hossain Tito got best solo performer. After winning the Star Search the winners never had to look back. The participated in mega concerts and performed with international and local musical icons. They already have their albums released and are earning quite a name.

Determined to find more stars, Benson & Hedges has organised Star Search 2001. The process of Star Search 2001 started on April 27, 2001. At a press briefing held on May 23, Benson & Hedges informed the press that this year the application forms are available at a few selected restaurants, eateries and retail outlets. In addition, the application forms are also available in magazines and newspapers. Through different media Benson & Hedges are inviting musicians to apply. This year Benson & Hedges expects to draw a large number of amateur performers. Like previous years this year the panel of judges will consist of leading musicians of the country.

Along with the application form, it is mandatory to provide a demo tape of the applicant's music. The demo might be professional studio recorded or home recorded. The panel of judges will then review the application form, listen to the tape and invite short listed candidates to a live audition. In previous years 100 participants were short-listed and invited for live auditions. Finally 15 contestants selected from the live auditions will be invited to perform at the Benson & Hedges Star Search 2001.

Interested musicians are expected to complete the application forms, prepare a demo tape and send in their entries by June 8. The final programme will be held in July. Benson & Hedges has already received many application forms and demo tapes and more are on their way. This is a major opportunity for the musicians all over the country to try, participate and become famous.
