| I have recently learnt that
the topic of discussion, at this time is Bengali Music. I have been in the band In
Dhaka for ten years. Though there were keyboard contributions from me in the first
released album, most of the keyboard was conducted by Russel of War Faze. From this comes
the success of War Faze. There were two songs donated to that album by Mashkur Rahman
(Mashuk). One being Jibon Amar (only the music part, lyrics were written by Babon). There
were three main bands that introduced Heavy Metal in Bangla. Initially Rock Strata.
Successively, In Dhaka and War Faze. I have not been in Dhaka for a long time now. But I
am very happy to have contributed this bit of knowledge that I have personally. Since the
topic is music in general, I would also like to mention how it has deteriorated (in my
opinion). My mother's name is
Mahmuda Khatun. My aunts are Fahmida Khatun and Sanjida Khatun. They have been prominent
Rabindra Shangit singers in Bangladesh for over 25 years. Shangitkar, in it's entirety,
means people who write the lyrica as well as compose the music. Gitikar, on the other
hand, writes the lyrics, but does not compose the music.
When I was younger, I remember things to
be Rabindra Shangit, and Nazrul Giti. But befor I left Dhake in '91, I had seen the birth
of Nazrul Shangit. This, to me, is absurd. I have been brought up in an environment where
all art is appreciated. But the reference of Nazrul Islam's work as 'Shangit' is an
absurd. I have personally seen Kaderi Kibria and Paiya Sarwar's work's criticized. In
Kaderi Kibria's presence, by Sanjida Khatun
(Minu Khalamma). In his Shorobitan, it is
extensively stated how the songs are to be sung. Each of the pauses are identified. Kaderi
Kibria drags them too much. I wish Sanjita Khatun was here to argue on my behalf. If it is
at all possible, I will try to persuade her to do so. Though I understand that the access
of an email in Dhaka for honest people like her is limited.
I would love to hear discussions in this
respect..... Please keep in mind that I am aware of Rabindranath Tagore's claim that his
music will change over time. Though I am not against it, it simply seems unacceptable to
me when they are sung as such. If anyone in the audience is aware of the discriptive
nature of Tagore songs, they will understand my concern.....
For those who are unaware, Sanjida Khatun
does have a doctorate degree from Shanti Niketon. It is a pleasure to join a service
dedicated to such a cause as this.... Love.....
