As the story unfolds, a village girl, Meghla (Moushumi) is
shown in love with a neighbour. The boy (Amit Hasan) refuses to marry Meghla when she
leaves her home by denouncing her arranged marriage with Khoybor Molla (Shahidul Alam
Sachchu), a middle-aged man. Insulted by the cowardice of her lover, Meghla decides to
commit suicide. But after a series of road mishaps the girl finds a new shelter after a
smart young man, Javed (Ayub Khan) carries homeless Meghla at the safety of a city
hospital. To save her life, Javed, who is shown returning home from abroad after, donates
blood of his own and in the process, creates an affectionate feeling in Meghla's soul for
him.
Javed's sister Rimi (Purnima), a student of medical college, loves
a police inspector Rinku (Shakil Khan) who is again the brother of Rimi's teacher (Shabana
Azmi).
In the meantime, Meghla is released from the hospital and she
leaves the place for an uncertain future, Javed arrives at the hospital only to find an
empty bed. Meghla meets Khoybor Molla in the streets and now the true nature of the man
gets revealed. Khoybar, in fact, turns out to be a pimp of a red-light area and he brings
Meghla to a mistress (Ferdousi Majumdar) of the brothel.
Javed manages to locate Meghla through some coincident and pays
the mistress a handsome amount to keep the girl away from clients. He falls in love with
Meghla and on a lonely night the two come in close contact resulting in an intimate
physical relationship.
After several interactions and development of the plot, Rinku's
sister goes to Javed and seeks his consent on the marriage of Rinku and Rimi. Javed
decides to marry Meghla and reveals his intention to the mistress. He again pays her a
handsome amount in a bid to release Meghla from the dark alleys of the red-light area but
this time the mistress, who finds kindness and sincerity in Javed, returns the amount as a
gift to the couple's wedding.
Rinku goes out in search of the criminal gang and arrests Khoybor,
the pimp who is also an agent of Baker Sakib (Pijush Bannerjee), a godfather of the
trafficking network. After some bloody shootout, the gang leader, Baker Sakib is arrested
from the airport moments before his flight.
Things start to normalize accept of a shocking news that reveals a
HIV-positive Meghla. Shabam Azmi, who is a doctor, asks Javed to test for HIV and the
report, turns out to be positive. It becomes clear that Javed had been transmitted with
virus of the fatal illness from acts of unprotected sexual relationship with his earlier
girlfriend (Neelam Singh) when he was staying abroad. Javed did not know that the girl
earned bread through flesh trade.
The plot of the movie comes to an end as the two couples tie knot.
It is informed through the final dialogues that HIV-positive patients can also lead
healthy life for up to ten to fifteen years provided they practice and maintain some
discipline in conjugal life.
Dolly Jahur, Jahanara Bhuiyan, Rajeev, Amol Bose, Syed Hasan Imam,
Anis, Dildar, Probir Mitra are some other well-known actors and actresses who perform in
various roles.
Meghla Akash has a unique plot that intends to aware the general
public about the advantages of protected sex during physical intimacy. It has a theme that
would certainly be very much helpful and effective in removing the notion of taboo in sex,
which is a big problem in our society.
The film can be rated as a soft-core adult but due to its
educational implication on AIDS/HIV, no such rating has been imposed. However, a couple of
objectionable sequences with extreme abusive language shown at the red light area could be
omitted from the final print that seems unnecessary for the development of the synopsis.
The scene of lovemaking between Javed and Meghla is depicted in a
highly refined style that can only be matched with scenes of famous Hollywood films.
'A sort of artistic flavour has been injected in the scene where
Javed and Meghla make love. The director has managed to put sufficient control in the
scene that is quite difficult to do in films of this region', mentions Shahidul Alam
Sachchu, who has leading contribution in the film and presents some outstanding
performance in the role of Khoybor Molla, the main villain. 'Nargis Akhter proved that a
commercial film can be made without any vulgarism and sex, though, ironically the plot of
Meghla Aakash deals with sex-related issues', Sachchu adds.
'Before the premier show, I have not seen Meghla Aakash on screen
but it seems that it would earn a good popularity as I hear a lot of praise from my
colleagues and members of the production unit, about the film', says Ferdousi Majumdar.
For the new and young performers like Purnima, Shakil and others
it would remain as some invaluable experience in life while able to perform with legendary
figure like Shabana Azmi.
